This Privacy Policy applies to our website, and its associated subdomains (collectively, our "Service") alongside our application, Page Turners. By accessing or using our Service, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
To provide you with the best experience, we collect the following types of information:
A. Information You Provide Explicitly
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your Email Address, Username, and Date of Birth. We require users to be at least 13 years of age.
- User Content: We collect the content you create, including:
- Shelves and Book Lists: Books you add to your profile.
- Reviews and Ratings: Opinions and star ratings you submit for books.
- Notes: Personal notes you attach to specific books.
- Bug Reports & Book Requests: Information submitted via our support forms, which may include your device model and OS version.
- AI Interactions: When you use "BrainX AI," we process your chat messages to provide responses. You have the option to save these conversations or keep them ephemeral (temporary).
B. Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: We may collect information about the device you use to access Page Turners, including the hardware model, operating system and version, and unique device identifiers (for bug reporting and analytics).
- Usage Data: We track your interactions with the app, such as which screens you view and how you interact with features, to improve the app experience.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide Functionality: To create your account, sync your shelves across devices, and display your profile to other users.
- AI Services: To process your queries through our AI backend (hosted on DigitalOcean) and generate reading recommendations or summaries.
- Social Features: To allow you to follow other users and view their shelves and reviews.
- Improvement: To fix bugs (via reported issues) and add new books requested by users.
- Communication: To send you important updates regarding your account (e.g., password resets, email verification).
3. Third-Party Services
We utilize trusted third-party services to operate Page Turners:
- Google Firebase: We use Firebase for:
- Authentication: To securely manage user logins.
- Firestore: To store your user profile, shelves, and reviews.
- Cloud Storage: To store uploaded profile pictures.
- DigitalOcean: We use DigitalOcean to host our backend API and AI services.
- AI Inference: Your chat messages are processed by AI models hosted on DigitalOcean infrastructure.
- PostgreSQL: We use a managed database to store book metadata and chat history.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
- Retention: We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.
- Account Deletion: You have the right to delete your account at any time via the Settings > Danger Zone menu in the app.
- Hard Delete: When you delete your account, we perform a "hard delete." This means your user profile, authentication records, shelves, reviews, and chat history are permanently removed from our databases. This action is irreversible.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Page Turners is strictly for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
6. Security
We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information. Your password is never stored in plain text; it is handled securely via Google Firebase Authentication. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
